( RE-Released ) (New Master)

We are so happy to share this new song release with everyone.

Shapathanal, my older brother and founding member of Monk Party, was blessed with a baby daughter in recent months. Shapathanal and Katy named her Nadi, which translates in English to "river".

Due to the current world situation and not being able to travel, we have not yet had the opportunity to go to Melbourne and meet our new family member :( So we wanted to send our love in the form of music.

We began by finding a sweet, short mantric-like song with Nadi in it written by Sri Chinmoy. The meaning of the song is "Hope river you are my sleepless companion."

The song came together very nicely and had a lullaby feeling…Perfect.

Next I had in mind to send the track to our extended Sikh family, Amrita Kaur and Yadvinder Singh, to record some vocals which I felt would be absolutely perfect for this track.

Last November 2020 I received a call by Yadvinder, who I had not yet met. He was looking for a bansuri flute player to join him and his daughter Amrita for a two day celebration of Guru Nanakji’s 551st Birthday in Auckland. Yadvinder sent me a few clips of their Kirtan music. I loved their singing and was pleasantly surprised that I already knew Amrita from past events.

We had seen Amrita perform and had met her briefly a couple of times, Firstly I remember her singing before Monk Party at one of Chinmaya Dunster’s wonderful Mehfil concerts at the Blockhouse Bay Boat Club in 2017 and also at an interfaith concert 2018. Dad and I remembered how beautiful her voice was on both occasions. Also, two weeks before the call, Amrita and some friends were visiting Christchurch for the weekend and saw us playing at an Indian restaurant. Small world right? :)

The experience of going up to Auckland and staying with them was such an amazing gift. Both Yadvinder and Amrita’s singing was heart-felt, pure, devotional and uplifting. They have sung Kirtan for many years and devoted their lives to music. Spiritual music. I was moved and deeply inspired by their devotion and genuine goodness.

To have Amrita and Yadvinder in this song is such a fantastic feeling to offer to our granddaughter/niece Nadi. - Nelson
